Day 5: Optional Tour to Abu Simbel

Abu Simbel is the most awe-inspiring temple in Aswan and, possibly, in all of Egypt. Sights include the four giant statues of Rameses II, erected to dissuade enemies in the south from attacking Egypt. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was almost lost forever with the creation of Lake Nasser, but the entire temple was moved in order to save it. The temple at Kom Ombo was built in the time of Ptolemy VI.
